About Youth Basketball Tools

Youth Basketball Tools is a simple collection of free youth basketball drills and practice plan helpers designed for grades K–5. Everything is built to be easy to run in small gyms with beginner players: short explanations, high reps, and as few lines as possible.

The goal

Help youth coaches run organized practices that kids actually enjoy. Not complicated “Pinterest drills.” Just repeatable segments that build confidence and keep energy high.

Fast start Warmups that get movement + ball touches immediately.
Skill stations Ball handling, shooting, passing, and simple decisions.
Defense habits Stance, effort, hands high, and “no reaching.”
Finishers Short games to end on energy and build confidence.
Coach tip: Keep explanations to 10–15 seconds. Start reps fast, then coach one cue at a time.

What makes these drills different

Every drill is written with a real K–5 gym in mind: limited space, mixed skill levels, and coaches who need something that works today.

1-sentence setup Quick to explain, easy to start immediately.
Simple variation One tweak to keep it fresh without confusion.
Time/space tweaks Works in half-court, tight areas, or small gyms.
Repeatable flow Kids learn “what’s next” and practice runs smoother.
Best results: Pick 2–3 “coach phrases” and repeat them across drills so kids actually remember them.

A simple practice structure (40 minutes)

A repeatable flow most K–5 groups handle well:

8 min Warmup (movement + touches)
12 min Station 1 (primary focus)
12 min Station 2 (shooting/finishing)
8 min Finisher game (energy + fun)
Shortcut: If you’re overwhelmed, run the same structure for 3–4 practices in a row. Change only 1 drill each week.

FAQ

Is this only for certain ages?

The drills are written for grades K–5, but many can be scaled up by increasing distance, adding a decision, or raising the “rep goal.” The core idea stays the same: short lines, simple rules.

Do I need special equipment?

Most drills need only basketballs and cones. Pinnies help, but they aren’t required.

Can I share these drills?

Yes — share the page links with other coaches. That helps the site get discovered organically over time.
